Governance is not a cost, it’s an ROI line

For most organisations governance was a cost center with no ROI story. Success meant nothing malfunctioned. You were selling the absence of a disaster, and that's a hard sell in a budget meeting, so it never gets prioritised. Let alone you need to motivate people to do the work no one is congratulating you for since it's considered "bare minimum". The result is that governance is neglected.

However, every org wants a number on AI productivity now. CFOs want to know what it's saving or making. CEOs want to call themselves an AI company. And obviously AI output is only as good as the data feeding it though, training data or whatever gets pulled at runtime to answer the question in front of it.

Governance used to be insurance. Now it's a line item in the AI ROI calculation. Clean, documented data means reliable output. Messy data means an AI that hallucinates or needs someone checking its work all day. Governance maturity maps onto AI performance, and that's a number execs already track.

Governance is no longer a cost center. Pitch it as the reason the AI project doesn't die in pilot.
