Marketing grows, legal protects
For a lot of our clients we step in as a translator between legal and marketing. By the time we enter they usually don't get along. Which makes sense if you look at what they're tasked with:
- Marketing's role is to grow the org
- Legal's role is to protect the org
They lack a common language to book progress. Things we've seen work:
- Make them aware of each other's objectives. Everyone is just trying to do their job. Relax.
- Help legal understand technical terms. Don't yell "server-side" or "client-side". Show what it looks like. Draw it out.
- Help marketing understand which precise elements worry legal. Every architecture is a stack of bricks. Pin-point the problem brick. Design alternatives around it.
