Your website does three jobs. Agents are taking them one by one
A founder I had coffee with buys software on a website, copies the MCP key from the admin panel and never logs into the web app again. It made me ask what a SaaS website actually does. I count three jobs: content, transaction and value. All three sit on the vendor’s platform today, and they won’t move to the agent at the same pace.
Value went first because MCP sits on top of APIs that already existed. Content and transaction still need work. An agent needs one machine-readable source for what the product does and costs, and a way to create an account and pay. AP2, the Agentic Commerce Protocol and Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol are all aimed at that gap, and none of them is the standard yet. For webshops the shift goes all the way. Content and transaction are the only two jobs their website ever did, so once those move, the site has nothing left that only it can do.
